Q Saturday Night features The King and I on Broadway 12/14

Q Saturday Night presents classic music of film and stage, culminating in the critically acclaimed return of Rodgers & Hammerstein's The King and I. Following our time on Broadway, we turn to a differnet ascpect of theater with Shakespeare. It all starts at 7 p.m. Saturday on Q.

Richard M. Sherman: Songs of a Lifetime at 7 p.m. The songwriter and his brother Bob composed Disney soundtracks. Featuring performances of classic songs from Mary Poppins, Jungle Book, Winnie the Pooh and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

Great Performances Rodgers & Hammerstein's The King and I at 8 p.m. Based on a true story, East and West collide in 1862 when British schoolteacher Anna Leonowens arrives in Siam to take up her post instructing the royal household's children. Despite her strong will, nothing has prepared Anna for the lessons this rich and complicated land has to teach her—or for the powerful connection she forges with its imperious, conflicted King. This “first-rate, sumptuous” (The New York Times) production is “too beautiful to miss” (New York Magazine).
