Graphic Designer

Maintain the Austin PBS brand and develop design assets to ensure the consistency of messaging across the organization and all Austin PBS properties (print, web and on-air).

This person is a creative and collaborative individual responsible for the conceptualization and design of production materials, promotional collateral, environmental graphics, social media, web and marketing assets across platforms.

As part of a creative team, this position is key to advancing the mission of Austin PBS through high-quality visual design.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Create and produce original designs for print, digital and multimedia projects, selecting colors, fonts, photographs, layouts and other design elements to communicate creative concepts.
  • Create a cohesive visual style and ensure consistency across disciplines.
  • Work closely with other communications team members to maintain consistent messaging and branding across all channels: on-air, online, in print.
  • Work with staff across the station to establish and manage design projects and be a positive advocate for design within the organization. Coordinate with other departments to meet goals and deadlines as outlined in communication plans, including engaging in and responding to creative feedback.
  • Manage design workflows, working with the Creative Director on managing priorities, capacity, timelines, and budgets of design projects.
  • Analyze and identify cost effective options to meet project requirements.
  • Develop relationships with effective, reliable vendors and third-parties.
  • Organize, maintain and archive working files according to established department processes.
  • Integrate the use of inclusive design practices that make it possible for users of all abilities to fully experience the brand, receive and understand communication, and take advantage of opportunities to engage with and become fans of the Austin PBS brand, services, and products.
  • Effectively engage diverse perspectives and experiences in work products and in organizational interactions, and demonstrate respect for others in all workplace relationships.

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED. Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in graphic design or related field preferred.
  • At least 3 years of digital, print and multi-platform design experience required.
  • At least 3 years of experience with Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop
  • A portfolio of work that demonstrates strong design skills and abilities, including layout, color, typography and graphic elements.
  • Passion for the mission and vision of public media.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Propensity for innovation and the pursuit of improvement.
  • Display creativity and initiative with the ability to respond quickly to last-minute needs and changing priorities.
  • A team player and people person that is organized, creative, logical, perceptive and decisive.
  • Problem solving ability to work proactively and independently with limited direction.
  • Ability to work non-standard hours in support of major activities and emergencies.

Preferred Job Requirements:

  • Motion graphics experience (Adobe After Effects)
  • Experience in high-demand, multimedia organizations
  • Experience designing for social media and web environments
  • Ability to create original illustrations

Annual Salary Starting at $55,000 + commensurate with experience
