The Freedmen's Bureau Project
In eight years following emancipation, the Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen, and Abandoned Lands recorded data produced by former slaves interacting in their new lives as free people. FamilySearch International has been shepherding a project for digitizing these records which will enable researchers today to find their families back then.
