Return to Nature with Help from New Friends!
Posted on May 14, 2026
May’s Pick of the Month is Wowsabout! This brand new special follows the unlikely friendship of Ronald, a fastidious little pig, and Roxy, a musical hedgehog, as they explore the “wows” of one of America’s most beautiful places: Sequoia National Park. Created and written by Emmy Award-winning producer Halle Stanford (Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance), and executive producer, writer, and principal puppeteer Dorien Davies, Wowsabout teaches kids about nature, friendship, and wonder as we celebrate the 250th birthday of the United States. PBS KIDS invites kids and families to come along on an unforgettable cross-country road trip with the PBS KIDS Across America initiative, starting with Wowsabout!
After you watch Wowsabout, head over to PBS KIDS Games to continue exploring nature with Sesame Street’s Nature Explorers. Explore the neighborhood and find clues from critters around the block. Then, work together to create a nature journal so you can go around your own neighborhood and record all of the cool things you find! Fashion the journal out of paper bags, scrap paper, or whatever you have around the house and use it to record questions, observations, and things your young ones wonder about the natural world.
For parents and caregivers, we have an article that helps explain how nature can act as stress relief for kids. Whether your young ones have trouble in the weird space between dinner and bedtime or you can sense some big emotions coming on, nature can be a really helpful tool. Time spent outdoors can involve movement to release energy, quiet time to help kids think and reflect on things going on in their lives, or act as a moment for creativity and wonder to bloom.
Check out these resources and more and enjoy our new special!
