Moving Forward Internship Program
With the aim of developing the next generation of professionals trained in using the power of media for good, Austin PBS’s Moving Forward Internship Program is designed to provide a transformational learning experience for students interested in careers in public media and nonprofit administration.
Moving Forward Interns work on key projects and are actively involved in mission-critical work while gaining a comprehensive view of Austin PBS as they work collaboratively within their teams and across departments.

Who can apply?
Currently, eligible applicants must be:
- Enrolled in college credits, can be from the following schools: Austin Community College (“ACC”), The University of Texas at Austin (“UT Austin”), Texas State University (“TXST”) or Huston-Tillotson University (“HT”), St. Edwards University, or any others in the surrounding Austin area
- Have taken or are enrolled in a course(s) required by the college/university to participate in an internship
- Able to work 15 to 20 hours per week (Work is currently being done on a hybrid schedule, depending on your department)
There may be other requirements specific to each internship. Detailed information on these requirements are provided in the opportunities listed below.

ACC students applying to receive academic credit, please reach out to your Department Chair: https://www.austincc.edu/academic-program-department-contacts to verify requirements for enrollment within your area of study.
When are applications due?
We offer internships for the Spring, Summer, and Fall semesters. Internship openings are limited, so please apply as soon as you can! Here is a list of deadlines for the 2024 semesters:
Spring 2024 Deadline: December 1st, 2023 Internship starts January 22nd and lasts through May 3rd 2024
Summer 2024 Deadline: April 19th, 2024 Internship starts June 3rd, 2024 and runs through August 9th, 2024
Fall 2024 Deadline: August 9th, 2024 Internship starts September 2nd, 2024 and runs through December 13th, 2024
How much do interns get paid?
Moving Forward Interns are paid $20 per hour.
Can you tell me more about your internship program?
Moving Forward Interns gain hands-on experience and a glimpse into the world of public media. Some experiences may include: helping produce local productions, creating marketing materials, reporting stories, and more. Whether it’s working with our community journalism initiative, Decibel, or assisting production for award-winning programs like Overheard with Evan Smith or Central Texas Gardener, or helping plan one or our many community and fundraising events, interns at Austin PBS get hands-on experience in multiple fields.
