As well as broadcast programs honoring our veterans and military families, Austin PBS has hours of streaming content for you to enjoy this Memorial Day weekend.

Veterans Coming Home

The Veterans Coming Home series follows a team of photographers, writers and filmmakers--both veteran and civilian--who are crisscrossing the country to explore the lives of post-9/11 veterans, the divide between them and their communities, and the stereotypes that veterans and civilians hold about each other.

Why does this divide exist? How does it affect communities across the country? And why does it matter?

American Veteran

This four-part documentary series traces the veteran experience across the arc of American history and exploring the present-day divide between civilian and veteran communities. From the citizen-soldiers returning from the Revolution to today’s warrior class, it is a deeply moving story, illuminating the veteran experience and drawing civilian viewers into an unfamiliar culture.

American Veteran: Keep It Close

In the American Veteran: Keep It Close series, delve into the Veteran experience by exploring the significance of objects that veterans carried with them or brought back home from their service. Hosted by Shain Brenden, a former medic in the US Navy who served multiple tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan with the Marines, the series asks what these objects meant, and why they still matter today.

The Oath

Five military veterans gather for a candid discussion in Atlanta to compare and contrast their individual experiences while deployed during different wars.

Chasing the Dream: Veterans

In this episode of Chasing the Dream focusing on veterans, the Stand With Me Service Dog Team Training Program helps veterans cope with life after being in the service by training their own service dogs.

True North

True North: Sailing to Salvation documents a group of distressed war veterans who, feeling alienated from society upon their return from duty, find healing, connection and a sense of belonging through participation in the Valhalla Sailing Project on the Chesapeake Bay in Annapolis, MD.

Veterans Closing the Skills Gap in North Carolina

The veteran unemployment rate has steadily dropped since its all-time high of nearly 12% in April 2020, but as of March 2021, the veteran unemployment rate is still at 4.6%. Veteran advocates say it can be difficult for people to transition out of the military into the civilian job market. However, in this show, you will see that veterans often bring a unique approach and skillset to jobs.
