IRA Charitable Rollover

Consider supporting Austin PBS, KLRU-TV through your IRA.

Austin PBS will accept donations from either a Traditional IRA or a Roth IRA.

However, there are tax incentives for a donor to make a qualified charitable distribution from a Traditional IRA commonly called the IRA charitable rollover or Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD).

A QCD can be transferred directly to a qualified charity without being included in your gross income, thereby reducing your taxable income for the year. This is particularly helpful if a donor takes the standard deduction on their annual tax filing. QCDs can also satisfy Required Minimum Distributions (RMD) if you are aged 73 or older, further reducing taxable income and potentially avoiding higher tax brackets.

These tax benefits are available as long as you meet the following criteria:

  • You (and your spouse if applicable) must be 70½ or older at the time of the gift.

  • You must make a gift directly from your Traditional IRA to Austin PBS. Gifts from your IRA to donor-advised funds or life-income vehicles such as charitable gift annuities or charitable remainder trusts do not qualify.

  • Your total annual IRA Charitable Rollover gift(s) cannot exceed $108,000 for individuals and $216,000 for married couples (for 2025).

  • You must make your gift by December 31 for the gift to qualify for this tax year.

  • You cannot receive any goods or services in exchange for your IRA charitable rollover.

Making Your Gift is Easy

In order to count in the current tax year, Austin PBS will need to receive on or before December 31. Here are the steps you should take:

  • Contact your IRA custodian/administrator and request a beneficiary form.

  • Ask that your distribution be a charitable rollover to Capital of Texas Public Telecommunications Council (dba Austin PBS, KLRU-TV).

  • To ensure that we can promptly and accurately credit your gift, ask them to include your name, address and how you would like the gift allocated in the transfer. Please also send an email to membership@klru.org so that we can be on the lookout for your generous gift.

Distributions can be mailed to:

As always, we encourage you to seek the advice of professional advisors to understand how retirement funds may be used for charitable giving for your situation.
