We've all heard of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, but most people have no idea how widespread and prevalent Jewish resistance to Nazi barbarism was. Instead, it's widely believed "Jews went to their deaths like sheep to the slaughter." Thursday, January 30th

In January 2014, archaeologists started excavating a cemetery that's been hidden for over 300 years, in the heart of London. The team have just five months to remove hundreds of skeletons from a site in the Liverpool Street area, before it's redeveloped by Crossrail, Europe's biggest engineering program. Experts will then spend a year examining the skeletons, how they were buried and objects buried with them, before they are finally laid to rest in a modern London cemetery. Thomas Jefferson embodies within his own life the most profound contradictions of American history: as the author of the Declaration of Independence, he gave voice to our fervent desire for freedom, but he also owned more than 150 slaves and never saw fit to free them. In part 1, Jefferson's beginnings in Virginia are detailed from his education at William & Mary, the building of Monticello, to his marriage and children. Jefferson is called to Philadelphia as a statesman, and to Paris after the American revolution as an official diplomat. While Jefferson was laying the foundations of a new government and country, his work was tragically interrupted by a series of personal losses at his Monticello home.
